Hi Coach,
Some coaches think there is some sort of, well gimmick to The Princeton Offense.
It’s been called a “Back Door” Offense since the beginning.
The Point Series was created in the mid
90s…
And the Split Action you get out of actions from Point Screen Away or Point Over the Top have now been popularized throughout the game, even at the professional level.
But it isn’t the “gimmick” that makes it work.
It isn’t the back cut (although it’s an action given heavy focus)
The Princeton Offense is all about the Setup and Strategy!
The quote unquote “Trick Play” or “Gimmick” or “Back
Cut” doesn’t work if that’s your go to action.
The Chin Series is the most popular, most known, most scouted Princeton Action…
It still works very well… but good coaches know how to guard the shuffle and get their players in the right position.
The Point Series “Split Action” is quickly becoming the next most scouted action.
And if defenses are packing it in, taking away the back cut, and making it more difficult for the screener to get open after the split… you must design what happens next.
That is the true beauty of The Princeton Offense.
There is always something “Next”
If you don’t have that… well, if you don’t have players who can just go make plays… your offense will stall…
And the “cool Princeton actions” lose their effectiveness because it’s been turned into a one trick pony act.
Princeton was invented so teams with less talent could compete with teams with more
talent.
Truth is that is most of us. There is always a bigger bully on the block…
How do you outsmart that kid?
Out train them, out tough them, out execute them with a smarter Strategy!
