Another Summer Youth Camp Idea

May 29, 2009

This idea is from Coach Ken Sartini (aka Coach Sar in the Yahoo Coaching Hoops Group).  I am sending it with his permission.

Here is something that I had to do a little later in my coaching career when we didn't have a lot of kids coming to camps.  We had kids of various ages and when we came to playing short games I didn't want the better kids taking all the shots.  If it was 5 on 5 we played to 6 and everybody had to score a basket before anybody could score the game winner.  (there were times I picked who could score the last basket, just to make it a little more interesting)  You would be amazed with how hard they worked to get the least talented kid a shot and score.

This taught some leadership skills for the older/better kids.... teamwork, good passing and screening etc.  I really liked this (as did the kids) because they all walked away from the game feeling good about themselves.
